Session Tips for Pets/Animals

Don't Stress!

The first and most important tip is Don't Stress. Obedience training is not required for a successful session. Here are some guidelines to ensure a smooth experience:

• Leashes and Halters: Leashes on dogs are welcome and recommended for safety. For horses, halters and lead ropes keep everyone safe. Rest assured, these items can be removed during the editing process.
• Safety First: Prioritize the safety of your pet or horse at all times. Ensuring they are comfortable and secure will make the session enjoyable for both of you.

Do Prepare

A little preparation can go a long way in making your pet look their best:

• Grooming: Clean coats and eyes, along with a good brushing to remove loose or stray hairs, are often all that is needed. If your pet normally visits a groomer, schedule an appointment a couple of days before your session. For show animals, follow your usual show prep routine to ensure they look their absolute best.
• Favorite Items: Bring along your pet's favorite toys or blankets. These familiar items can help them feel more comfortable and relaxed during the session.
• Treats: Have a generous supply of their favorite treats on hand. Treats can be used to reward good behavior and keep your pet engaged.
• Feeding: Feed your pet a couple of hours before the session. A well-fed pet is more likely to be calm and cooperative.

Be Flexible

Understand that pets may need breaks and that’s perfectly fine:

• Breaks: If your pet or horse needs a break, we will take one. This is completely normal and expected.
• Relax and Have Fun: Most importantly, relax and enjoy the session. Your positive energy will help your pet feel at ease.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

My dog (or cat or other animal) can't be let off leash or doesn't know commands.

This is very common, and keeping a leash on helps to ensure their safety. It is not an issue at all, and leash removal is common during editing. A leash is often a benefit to the placement and positioning of your pet! The same is true for halters and lead ropes or bridles on your horse.

My dog (or cat or other animal) won't sit still and doesn't know commands like 'sit' or 'stay'.

Most pets don't know these commands! No worries at all. Mo's Photos has experience working with animals that have varying levels of training and patience.

My animal needs to be photographed at our home rather than a studio, and I don't have a pretty location.

Mo's Photos is mobile and can be scheduled throughout the South Central PA/Northern Maryland region. Sessions with Mo's Photos are on location, either at your home or a location of your choice in these areas.

What about more unusual pets like reptiles, snakes, hedgehogs, etc.?

Mo's Photos is very comfortable working with many different species of animals, large and small, and loves the unique opportunities they present!  Small animal safety while 'on set' is ensured by using a specially designed set that helps to keep animals on set without limiting mobility or photo opportunities. This setup, along with a spotter (normally the owner), allows for small animals to be photographed safely.
